1 ) A line that passes through (2,4) and has a gradient of 1/2
what is the y-intercept ?
2 ) A line that passes through (1,4) and has a gradient of 3
what is the y-intercept ?
我答道:
1)
gradient (m) =1/2
y=mx+c
y=0.5x+c
sub x=2, y=4 into the above formula
4=0.5(2)+c
c=3
y-intercept =3
2)
gradient (m) =3
y=mx+c
y=3x+c
sub x=1, y=4 into the above formula
4=3(1)+c
c=1
y-intercept =1

1.) y - 4 = 1/2 ( x - 2 )
2y - 8 = x - 2
2y = x - 6
y = 1/2x - 3
therefore, y-intercept is -3
2.) y - 4 = 3 ( x - 1 )
y - 4 = 3x - 3
y = 3x + 1
therefore, y-intercept is 1

2y - 8 = x - 2
2y = x - 6
以上一行大意計錯了...
應該是:
2y = x + 6
y = 1/2x + 3
therefore, y-intercept is 3
從我多年補習的經驗,學生引用錯誤的方程式(formula)來回答問題, 或在運算的過程中大意地出錯, 是很普遍的錯誤……
其實,引用方程式時,最重要是知道這個方程式的意義;而運算的過程中,最重要是小心謹慎。
